Check the cause
Verify the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Valve 6 for connection problems, which are a frequent cause of electronic valve codes.
Perform a spool leakage check by positioning the control handle in 'Neutral'.
Connect a hydraulic hand pump to one of the control valve ports and pressurize the port to 2500 psi.
If it is not possible to pressurize the port to 2500 psi, oil is leaking around the spool, indicating a damaged spool or spool bore, a failing centering spring, or trapped foreign matter.
Repair steps
Remove linkage and clean
Remove the linkage or lever from the spool and thoroughly clean the front of the valve and spool.
Unscrew rear pipe
Unscrew the large pipe from the rear of the valve. (Tip: Use a 1 1/2" socket with an extension and breaker bar on the large hex nut).
Remove pipe and spool
Pull the pipe and valve spool out the back of the valve body.
Clamp valve in vise
Clamp the front flat part of the control valve in a vise with the rear pipe end raised slightly higher than the front.
Unscrew slotted plug
Carefully unscrew the slotted plug from the rear end. Caution: This plug is up against a spring and is spring-loaded.
Remove spring and balls
Remove the spring, then use a small magnet to draw out the ball cup and ball, followed by the 3 smaller detent balls.
Slide pipe off spool
Slide the large pipe rearward off the spool and actuator.
Unscrew actuator
Unscrew the actuator from the end of the spool.
Clean, inspect, and reseal
Clean all components, inspect for scoring or damage, and replace the seals/O-rings using an OEM repair kit. (If the valve bore is heavily scored, the entire valve assembly must be replaced).
Reassemble and test
Reassemble in reverse order and repeat the 2500 psi pressure check to ensure there are no leaks.
