Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Valve 6 for corrosion, moisture, or broken pins (primary trigger for this code).

  2. Use a diagnostic tool to read the spool position sensor value to check for out-of-range values or an uncalibrated state.

  3. Test the solenoid coil on Valve 6 for proper resistance and ensure it is receiving the correct voltage from the EHR module.

  4. Check for physical wear on the spool valve detents or mechanical binding that could cause the valve to stick or fail to center (common on heavily used tractors like the 7600 series).

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/buttons to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Electrical Repair

If the diagnostic check revealed a wiring fault, repair the harness or replace the solenoid coil on Valve 6.

  4. Detent / Sensor Replacement

If the spool position sensor or detents are faulty, remove the end cap of the spool valve. On some models (e.g., 7600 series), you can install a replacement detent kit rather than replacing the whole valve.

  5. Valve Replacement

If the valve body is scored or the manufacturer does not offer internal replacement parts for your specific model, unbolt Valve 6 from the hydraulic stack, replace the O-rings between the slices, and install the new spool valve assembly.

  6. Recalibration

Once repaired or replaced, connect the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool and run the EHR spool valve calibration routine. The tractor must relearn the neutral, fully open, and fully closed positions of the new valve.
