Check the cause

  1. Check fluid levels and condition to ensure the tractor has the correct amount of clean UTTO (e.g., 10W40), as contaminated fluid can cause the valve to stick

  2. Inspect hydraulic and transmission filters for blockages that restrict oil flow and trigger valve performance codes

  3. Inspect electrical connections, wiring harness, and connectors going to the #6 electric spool slice for damage or poor contact

  4. Check for external leaks on the valve block which indicate failed O-rings or seals

  5. Test pilot pressure to verify that the pilot pressure control for the electric spool valve is functioning correctly

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the #6 electric spool slice.

  4. Remove Hydraulic Lines

Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the #6 valve. Cap the lines to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty spool valve slice from the main valve bank.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement electric spool slice and torque the bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect

Reattach the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connector.

  8. Programming

If installing a modern Electric Spool Slice (e.g., part 3797234M6), the new valve must be programmed to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool.

  9. Fluid and Filter

Replace the hydraulic filter and top off the hydraulic fluid.

  10. Test

Start the tractor, allow the fluid to warm up, and test the #6 remote for proper operation and leak-free performance.
