   Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface tool to retrieve the exact sub-code (e.g., 0A.60.18 vs 0A.61.18) to determine if the issue is an electrical short, open circuit, or mechanical failure.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector leading to the 6th external hydraulic valve on the rear remote stack for corrosion, pinched wires, or loose connections.

   Verify that the tractor's battery voltage is sufficient (typically above 11V), as low voltage can cause the hydraulic solenoids to throw erroneous codes.

   Ensure the hydraulic reservoir is at the proper level and check the valve block for any visible external leaks or physical damage to the couplers.

   Relieve Pressure

   Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic system pressure before beginning any physical repairs.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Address Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic check revealed a connection issue, clean the solenoid contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Clear the code and test.

   Replace the Solenoid/Valve

   If the electrical connection is sound but the valve fails to actuate, the electronic spool valve solenoid (or the entire valve slice) must be replaced.

   Disassembly

   Unbolt the tie-rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together. Carefully remove the 6th valve section, taking care not to lose or damage the O-rings between the valve slices.

   Installation

   Install the new external hydraulic valve section or solenoid. Ensure all new O-rings are properly seated. Torque the stack tie-rods to the OEM specifications found in the service manual.

   System Bleed & Reset

   Top off the hydraulic fluid. Use the diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.6X.18 DTC from the system memory. Start the tractor and test the operation of the 6th remote to ensure the code does not return.
