Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at External Valve 6 for corrosion, frayed wires, or a loose connection

  2. Check the UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) fluid level and ensure it is not contaminated with water or debris

  3. Verify when the hydraulic filter was last changed; a heavily contaminated filter can restrict oil flow and trigger valve codes

  4. Check for air in the hydraulic system, which can cause spontaneous cylinder action or sluggish response

  5. Inspect the quick couplers and the base of the valve for external leaks or blown O-rings causing internal pressure loss

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Lower all implements to the ground. Turn off the engine and cycle the hydraulic remote levers to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valves to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the Valve 6 solenoid.

  4. Remove Hoses/Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Unbolt the Valve

Remove the mounting bolts securing the external hydraulic valve to the valve stack or lift cover manifold.

  6. Replace Seals/Valve

If rebuilding, replace the internal spool seals and O-rings. If replacing the unit, prep the new valve. Always use new mounting O-rings between the valve and the manifold.

  7. Reinstallation

Bolt the new/rebuilt valve into place and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical connector.

  8. Bleed and Test

Top up the UTTO hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, allow the fluid to warm up, and cycle the valve multiple times to bleed air from the system.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.6X.1E code from the system.
