Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector plugging directly into External Hydraulic Valve 6 for corrosion, bent pins, or frayed wires.

  2. Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connection from Valve 6 to a known working valve (e.g., Valve 5) to determine if the fault follows the valve or stays with the wiring harness.

  3. Check the hydraulic reservoir fluid level and inspect for contamination, which can cause the mechanical spool to stick.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve any residual pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect the Battery

Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Remove the Valve Solenoid/Spool

Locate External Valve 6 on the rear hydraulic block. Disconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Unbolt the Valve

Remove the mounting bolts securing the spool valve to the hydraulic manifold. Have a bucket ready, as hydraulic fluid will leak during this process.

  5. Install the Replacement Valve

Mount the new spool valve or install a spool valve repair kit. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Bleed

Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and cycle the hydraulic remote to bleed air from the system. Top off hydraulic fluid as necessary.

  7. Clear the Code

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.6X.24 code from the system.
