Check the cause
Fluid and Filter Check: Check the UTTO hydraulic fluid level and condition. Look for foamy oil, which indicates air in the system and can cause poor spool response.
External Inspection: Inspect quick-release couplers, coupler seals, dust caps, and hydraulic hoses for visible leaks or damage.
Spool Leakage Check: Position the control handle in 'Neutral'. Connect a hydraulic hand pump (e.g., test kit N-1100) to the control valve port. Pressurize the port to 2500 psi. If the port cannot be pressurized, oil is leaking internally around the spool. This indicates a damaged spool/bore, a failed centering spring, or foreign contamination inside the valve.
Repair steps
Disassemble and Clean
Remove the external hydraulic valve assembly. Disassemble, clean, and inspect the valve to ensure no foreign contamination is causing the blockage or pressure loss.
Inspect the Spool and Bore
Check the spool and the bore for scoring or damage. Note: Most spools are precision-fitted to the bore in the valve body and are not replaceable on their own.
Replace Seals
If the spool and bore are in good condition, replace the internal O-rings, spool valve seals, and gaskets using a repair kit. Check the centering spring assembly to ensure it hasn't detached from the end of the spool.
Reassemble and Retest
Reassemble the valve and repeat the 2500 psi pressure check.
Replace the Valve
If pressure still cannot be obtained or if the spool/bore was visibly scored, the entire hydraulic control valve assembly must be replaced.
Flush System
Change the hydraulic filters and flush contaminated fluid if metal shavings or debris were found in the valve.
