Check the cause

  1. Verify that the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. Inspect the hydraulic filter for clogs, which can restrict flow and trigger valve errors.

  2. Check the external hydraulic valve block (specifically Valve 7) and remote couplers for physical damage, worn seals, or fluid leaks.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at Valve 7 for loose pins, corrosion, or broken wires.

  4. Check for air in the hydraulic system, which can cause sluggish response, and bleed the system if necessary.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure before beginning work.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 7 on the rear remote stack and carefully disconnect its electrical wiring harness.

  3. Remove Hoses

Disconnect the hydraulic lines/hoses attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent dirt and debris from contaminating the hydraulic system.

  4. Unbolt the Valve

Remove the mounting bolts securing the faulty spool valve to the hydraulic manifold/stack.

  5. Prep the Surface

Clean the mounting surface thoroughly. Remove any old O-rings or seals.

  6. Install the New Valve

Place the new O-rings/seals into position (using a hydraulic valve mounting O-ring kit) and bolt the new external hydraulic valve into place. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical connector back into the valve solenoid.

  8. Refill and Bleed

Top off the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and bleed the system of any trapped air.

  9. Clear the Code

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.70.28 code from the system and test the remote for proper operation.
