Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid level is correct and inspect the rear valve block for any visible leaks or physical damage.

  2. Test the tractor's battery and electrical system to ensure proper voltage, as low voltage can cause electrohydraulic valves to lock out.

  3. Check all fuses and relays associated with the hydraulic system and armrest controls.

  4. Perform a manual override test: Locate External Valve 7 on the rear spool block and manually press the pin on the solenoid. If it operates manually but not electronically, the issue is electrical (wiring, coil, or controller).

  5. Disconnect the battery overnight to allow the modules to reset, which can sometimes clear intermittent communication lockouts.

  6. Use the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to check for secondary codes that might indicate a broader CAN bus failure.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Fault

Based on the manual override test, determine if the solenoid coil or the entire valve slice needs replacement.

  2. Disconnect Electrical

Unplug the wiring harness connector from External Hydraulic Valve 7. Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Remove the Valve

If the valve slice is defective, remove the hydraulic hoses connected to it. Unbolt the valve slice from the external hydraulic valve stack.

  4. Install New Components

Fit the replacement valve or solenoid. When reassembling the valve stack, ensure all O-rings and gaskets are properly seated.

  5. Apply Retaining Compounds

OEM manuals specify using Loctite 242 (medium threadlock) or Loctite 270 (strong threadlock) on mounting hardware where applicable.

  6. Torque Specs

Tighten all hydraulic unions and plate screws to the specified torque (e.g., standard plate screws often require 60 Nm to 70 Nm depending on the specific block).

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, top off hydraulic fluid, and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear code 0A.71.21 from the system. Test the valve via the cab controls.
