0A.71.28

Massey Ferguson 0A.71.28 – Main vehicle ECU or dedicated hydraulic/chassis control module: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a fault within the hydraulic control system, specifically pointing to a problem with the 7th external hydraulic remote valve. This typically indicates an electrical circuit issue (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the valve's solenoid) or a mechanical/hydraulic failure preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and that you are using the manufacturer-recommended fluid

  2. Inspect the external hydraulic valve block (specifically Valve 7) for physical damage, leaks, or sticking spools

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Valve 7 solenoid for rub points, damage, or corrosion

  4. Check the solenoid connector to ensure it is seated tightly and free of moisture/debris

  5. Use a multimeter to test the solenoid coil resistance and verify ground integrity

  6. Check for blown fuses related to the hydraulic control system

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic levers/controls.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty Valve 7 solenoid.

  4. Remove the Valve/Solenoid

Depending on the diagnosis, unbolt the faulty solenoid coil or the entire valve section from the hydraulic block. Have a catch pan ready for residual hydraulic fluid.

  5. Installation

Install the new solenoid or valve. Ensure all new O-rings and seals are properly seated to prevent leaks. Torque mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.

  6. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Testing

Top off the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, allow the fluid to reach operating temperature, and test the remote valve for proper operation and leak-free performance.

  8. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.71.28 DTC from the system.
