0A.72.12

Massey Ferguson 0A.72.12 – Auxiliary Valve Controller / EHR controller: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction associated with the 7th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical circuit problem (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or connection issue at the valve solenoid) or a mechanical issue where the valve is sticking/jamming and failing to respond to the controller's commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Check the solenoid connector on External Hydraulic Valve 7 for harness rub points, test the coil resistance, and verify ground integrity (electrical connection problems are a primary cause)

  2. Inspect the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, as dirty oil or a blocked filter can cause valves to stick

  3. Inspect the valve block for visible fluid leaks, which can indicate blown O-rings

  4. Determine if the valve is physically sticking or jamming due to internal debris

  5. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the code and test the remote to see if the fault returns, ruling out a transient voltage drop

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before working on the valve block.

  2. Locate Valve 7

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 7 on the rear remote spool valve manifold.

  3. Harness Repair

Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the spool valve cable.

  4. Valve Removal

If the electrical circuit is sound but the valve is leaking or sticking, unbolt and remove the valve section from the manifold block.

  5. Rebuild or Replace

Inspect the internal O-rings and seals. If damaged, rebuild the valve using an OEM repair kit. If the solenoid coil has failed internally or the valve body is heavily scored, replace the entire spool valve assembly.

  6. Reinstallation

Reinstall the valve, reconnect the electrical harness, and torque all mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Fluid Service

Top up the hydraulic fluid and replace the hydraulic filter if the fluid was contaminated.

  8. Final Test

Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool and test the remote hydraulic function under load.
