0A.72.18

Massey Ferguson 0A.72.18 – ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Issue description

A malfunction or connection problem with the 7th external hydraulic remote (spool valve). This typically points to an electrical connection issue, a failed pilot pressure control, or a faulty spool position sensor within that specific valve slice.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, and check the hydraulic/transmission filter for blockages or contamination which can cause valves to stick

  2. Inspect the 4-pin electrical connector on the affected electric spool slice (Valve 7) for corrosion, damaged wires, or loose connections

  3. Inspect the valve block for visible fluid leaks or damaged O-rings between the slices

  4. Test the pilot pressure control and the spool position sensor on the valve slice

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Locate the Valve

Identify the rear external hydraulic valve block and locate slice number 7.

  4. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the 4-pin electrical connector from the faulty spool slice.

  5. Remove the Valve Slice

Unbolt the tie-rods/mounting bolts holding the valve stack together and carefully remove the faulty electric spool slice.

  6. Replace Seals

Always replace the O-rings/seals between the valve slices before installing the new unit to prevent internal or external leaks.

  7. Install New Valve

Insert the replacement electric spool slice and torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications.

  8. Reconnect and Refill

Reconnect the 4-pin electrical connector. Reconnect the battery, check the hydraulic fluid level, and top off with OEM UTTO fluid if necessary.

  9. ECU Programming (Crucial)

The new electric spool slice must be programmed/calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a dealer diagnostic tool before it will function correctly.
