Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector at External Hydraulic Valve 7 for corrosion, bent pins, or a loose connection (connection problems are a primary cause of electronic valve faults)

  2. Inspect the valve block and spool for visible hydraulic fluid leaks or damaged O-rings

  3. Determine if the valve is physically sticking in one direction or failing to actuate

  4. Ensure the tractor's hydraulic fluid reservoir is at the correct level and the fluid is uncontaminated

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system by actuating the hydraulic levers/controls.

  2. Drain/Prepare

Have a large bucket ready, as removing hydraulic components can be messy and release residual fluid.

  3. Disconnect Electronics

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from External Hydraulic Valve 7.

  4. Remove Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and lines attached to the valve block.

  5. Dismount Valve

Unbolt the faulty external hydraulic valve from the hydraulic valve support/block.

  6. Repair or Replace

If the valve is leaking, install a hydraulic valve repair kit (new seals and O-rings). If the electronic solenoid or spool is internally failed, replace the entire valve assembly.

  7. Reinstall

Mount the new or repaired valve, torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect all hydraulic lines and electrical connectors.

  8. Refill and Clear

Top off the hydraulic fluid, bleed the system of air if necessary, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.72.1B code from the system.
