Check the cause
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to confirm 0A.72.20 is the active code
Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector going to External Hydraulic Valve 7 for corrosion, broken wires, or loose pins
Check the valve spool for physical binding, damage, or external hydraulic fluid leaks
Ensure the tractor has adequate hydraulic fluid levels and that the system is maintaining proper pressure
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and actuate the hydraulic levers/controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system before servicing.
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the electrical harness connector from External Hydraulic Valve 7.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the valve block area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove Lines
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and lines attached to the valve. Have a catch pan ready for residual fluid.
Dismount the Valve
Unbolt the faulty spool valve assembly from the hydraulic stack/manifold.
Install Replacement/Repair
Install the new spool valve or rebuild the existing one using an OEM repair kit (replacing internal O-rings and seals).
Reassembly
Bolt the valve back into place, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the electrical connector.
Fluid and Testing
Top off the hydraulic fluid. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the DTC. Test the remote valve for proper operation.
