Issue description

A malfunction associated with the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical circuit issue (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the valve's solenoid), a communication error, or a mechanical restriction (such as a stuck spool valve or blocked coupler) preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Check fluid and filters: Verify the hydraulic/transmission oil level and inspect the hydraulic oil filter for blockages or contaminated oil, which can cause restricted flow.

  2. Inspect electrical connections: Check the wiring harness and connector at the External Hydraulic Valve 8 solenoid for rub points, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Test the solenoid: Measure the coil resistance of the Valve 8 solenoid using a multimeter to check for an open circuit or a short to ground.

  4. Check couplers: Inspect the rear hydraulic couplers for damage or blockages that could cause a deadhead pressure situation.

  5. Component isolation: Swap the electrical connector/solenoid from Valve 8 to another working valve (e.g., Valve 7) to see if the error code follows the solenoid or stays with the wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Park and prepare tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

    Relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system by cycling the remote valve controls in the cab.

  3. Locate valve section

    Locate the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify Valve section 8.

  4. Disconnect electrical harness

    Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the Valve 8 solenoid.

  5. Remove faulty component

    If the solenoid is faulty, unbolt and remove the solenoid coil from the valve body. If the mechanical spool is sticking, remove the entire valve section from the hydraulic block.

  6. Clean and inspect

    Clean the mounting surface and inspect the internal spool for scoring, wear, or debris.

  7. Install replacement

    Install the replacement solenoid or valve section, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated.

  8. Torque and reconnect

    Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Top up fluid

    Top up the hydraulic/transmission fluid if any was lost during the repair.

  10. Test and calibrate

    Start the tractor, clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool, and test the valve operation. You may need to calibrate the valve limits via the armrest terminal.
