Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector going to the 8th external hydraulic valve slice for corrosion, bent pins, moisture ingress, or wire chafing.

  2. Perform a swap test by swapping the electrical connector (or the solenoid, if removable) with a known-good adjacent valve (e.g., Valve 7). If the fault code changes to indicate an issue with Valve 7, the valve/solenoid is faulty. If the code remains 0A.80.24, the issue is in the wiring harness or the control module.

  3. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the solenoid coil on Valve 8 to ensure it is not shorted or open.

  4. Inspect the valve block for any physical damage or hydraulic fluid leaks that could indicate a blown seal causing a loss of pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine. Relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the hydraulic control levers/buttons in the cab.

  2. Access the Valve Block

    Locate the rear external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

    Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty Valve 8 slice.

  4. Remove the Valve Slice

    If the entire electric spool slice needs replacement, remove the tie-bolts holding the spool valve stack together. Carefully separate the stack and slide out the faulty valve slice. (Note: Have a catch pan ready, as residual hydraulic fluid will leak out).

  5. Install the New Part

    Install the new spool slice or replacement solenoid. Crucial: Ensure all O-rings and seals between the valve slices are properly seated to prevent internal and external leaks.

  6. Reassembly

    Reinsert and tighten the valve stack tie-bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Testing and Clearing

    Top up the hydraulic fluid reservoir if necessary. Start the tractor, use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.80.24 fault code, and test the operation of the 8th remote valve to ensure the issue is resolved. (Note: Some modern electric spool slices require programming/calibration to the tractor upon installation).
