0A.81.20

Massey Ferguson 0A.81.20 – Main vehicle controller, Armrest ECU, or Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the 8th external hydraulic remote (spool valve) circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, an issue with the spool position sensor value, or a mechanical issue where the valve spool cannot be brought back to the neutral position.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to External Hydraulic Valve 8 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires

  2. Verify the signal voltage and value of the spool position sensor using a diagnostic tool to ensure it is reading correctly

  3. Check if the valve spool is physically stuck and ensure that the spool can freely return to the neutral position when the command is released

  4. For models utilizing mechanical cables to actuate or assist the spool valves, check the cable for stretching, binding, or snapping

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and Confirm

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to retrieve the code and confirm it is isolated to Valve 8.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the 8th spool valve assembly.

  3. Clean and Reconnect

Disconnect the electrical connector to the valve's solenoid and position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Clear the code to see if it returns.

  4. Replace Cable (If Applicable)

If the spool valve cable is binding and preventing the valve from returning to neutral, disconnect the cable at both ends, route a new OEM cable, and calibrate the lever.

  5. Replace Sensor/Valve

If the wiring is intact but the spool position sensor fails testing, or if the internal spool is mechanically seized and cannot be freed, the spool valve assembly or its sensor must be replaced.

  6. Clear and Test

After replacing the faulty component, use the diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs. Cycle the hydraulic remote to ensure the error does not return and the implement operates correctly.
