Massey Ferguson 0A.82.18 – Implement Control Unit or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue
Issue description
Indicates a malfunction associated with the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). Because this is an electronically monitored system, the underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as a poor connection, wiring issue, or failed solenoid) or a mechanical restriction (such as a sticking spool valve or blocked flow) preventing the valve from operating correctly.

Check the cause
Inspect the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, looking for dirty or contaminated oil.
Check the hydraulic and transmission filters, as blocked filters can restrict flow and cause valve errors.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector going to External Hydraulic Valve 8 for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires.
Test the solenoid on Valve 8 for proper resistance and verify it is receiving the correct voltage signal from the ECU when activated.
Check the physical spool valve and quick couplers for leaks, physical damage, or sticking.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Address Electrical Faults
Disconnect the electrical harness to Valve 8. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the harness section.
Replace the Valve/Solenoid
If the electrical circuit is intact but the valve is faulty, unbolt the Valve 8 assembly/solenoid from the hydraulic block.
Install New Parts
Install the replacement spool valve or solenoid. Ensure all O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Fluid Maintenance
If the oil was contaminated, drain the system, replace the hydraulic/transmission filters, and refill with fresh UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil).
Clear Codes
Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to the tractor, clear the 0A.82.18 fault code, and test the remote valve operation to ensure the issue is resolved.
