Massey Ferguson 0A.82.19 – Auxiliary Control Unit / Auxiliary Hydraulic Spool Valve module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit, solenoid, or mechanical operation of the 8th external hydraulic spool valve (remote valve) on the tractor's hydraulic stack. The system has detected an electrical anomaly (such as a short/open circuit) or a mechanical plausibility error (such as the valve actuator failing to return to the neutral position).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #8 external hydraulic spool valve at the rear of the tractor for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins in the connector.

  2. Test the solenoid on Valve 8 for an open circuit or short circuit to ground/power, comparing resistance values to a known good valve on the same stack.

  3. Check if the spool valve actuator is physically stuck due to debris in the hydraulic oil preventing it from returning to the neutral position.

  4. Verify that the switch/joystick on the multifunction armrest (MFA) is sending the correct signal voltage to the module.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

    Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the rear hydraulic valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Address Electrical Faults

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged harness or replace the pigtail connector.

  4. Replace the Solenoid/Valve

    If the solenoid is burnt out, remove the retaining nut/screws and slide the old solenoid off the valve cartridge. Install the new solenoid. If the valve itself is mechanically binding and cannot be freed by cleaning, the specific 'slice' (spool valve section) must be removed. Unbolt the tie rods holding the valve stack together, remove the faulty #8 slice, and install the replacement slice with new O-rings.

  5. Reassemble and Bleed

    Torque the valve stack tie rods to OEM specifications. Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost.

  6. Clear Codes & Calibrate

    Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to clear the 0A.82.19 code. Some electronic spool valves may require a quick calibration routine via the Datatronic terminal to learn the new valve's neutral position.
