0A.83.18

Massey Ferguson 0A.83.18 – Chassis/Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction, restriction, or connection problem within the tractor's hydraulic system, specifically related to the 8th external remote hydraulic spool valve. This can result in slow, weak, or completely dead hydraulic response when attempting to operate implements connected to this valve.

Check the cause

  1. Check hydraulic/transmission oil for contamination (dirt or metal shavings) and ensure it is at the correct level. Inspect for a blocked hydraulic filter.

  2. Inspect the remote couplers on Valve 8 and hoses for damage, blockages, or wear that could cause pressure loss.

  3. Check for sticking valves by testing if the valve is physically unresponsive or if the control lever is binding due to debris or internal wear.

  4. Look for visible fluid leaks around the external valve block, which can reduce system efficiency and cause pressure drops.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness and solenoid connections at External Valve 8 for corrosion, damage, or loose pins.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve all residual pressure in the system before beginning work.

  2. Drain Fluid

If removing the valve block, drain the hydraulic fluid to a clean container (or prepare to replace it).

  3. Disconnect Valve 8

Carefully disconnect the hydraulic hoses, remote couplers, and the electrical solenoid connector attached to External Valve 8.

  4. Remove and Inspect

Unbolt the valve from the hydraulic stack. Inspect the internal spool for scoring, debris, or damaged O-rings.

  5. Clean or Replace

If the valve is simply stuck due to debris, thoroughly clean it and replace the internal seals. If the valve body is scored or the electronic solenoid has failed, replace the entire valve assembly.

  6. Reinstall

Mount the new or repaired valve, torque the bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect all hoses and electrical fittings.

  7. Refill and Test

Refill the system with fresh OEM UTTO fluid (e.g., 10W40 hydraulic fluid) and install a new hydraulic filter. Start the tractor, allow it to warm up, and test Valve 8 with an implement to ensure proper pressure and no leaks.
