Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Locate Valve 8 and check for physical damage or severe hydraulic fluid leaks.

  2. Wiring and Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical harness at Valve 8. Inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or moisture ingress. Verify the wiring harness for chafing or breaks between the valve and the ECU.

  3. Solenoid Testing: Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the Valve 8 solenoid. Compare the reading to a known good valve on the same block (e.g., Valve 7) to determine if the solenoid coil has failed (open or shorted).

  4. Code Clearing: Attempt to clear the DTC using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to see if the code is an active hard fault or a stored intermittent error.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the hydraulic system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt or debris from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the Valve 8 solenoid.

  4. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty spool valve assembly from the hydraulic block. Be prepared with a catch pan for residual hydraulic fluid.

  5. Install New Seals

Ensure the mating surface on the block is clean. Install new O-rings/seals on the replacement valve.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the new external hydraulic valve and torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.

  7. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and test the operation of the remote valve.

  8. Clear Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.83.20 fault code from the system.
