Massey Ferguson 0B.00.18 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value

Issue description

The electronic control system is receiving an out-of-range, erratic, or missing voltage signal from the sensor that monitors the physical stroke/position of the hydraulic spool valve.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 5600 Series iT4
  • 5608
  • 5609
  • 5610
  • 5611
  • 5612
  • 5613
  • 4700 Series
  • 5700 Series
  • 6700 Series
  • 7600 Series
  • 7700 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the mid-mount valve block for open circuits, corrosion, or damaged pins.

  2. Perform a sensor voltage test: verify the 5V reference supply. The signal voltage should read approximately 2.5V (± 0.2V) in neutral and scale smoothly between 0.5V and 4.5V as the spool moves.

  3. Check for contaminated hydraulic oil or blocked transmission/hydraulic filters, which can cause a stuck spool and trigger sensor value errors.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic joystick/controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the mid-mount valve block.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (often located under the right-hand side of the cab or near the front axle depending on the loader prep).

  3. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the spool position sensor. Unbolt/unscrew the sensor from the spool valve housing.

  4. Inspect the Spool

Manually verify that the spool valve itself moves freely and is not physically jammed by debris. (If the valve is leaking or sticking, a spool valve repair kit may be required).

  5. Install the New Sensor

Fit the replacement spool position sensor and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Calibrate the Valves

After replacing the sensor, you must perform a valve calibration via the tractor's dash or diagnostic tool. (Failure to calibrate will likely trigger related codes 0B.00.22 or 0B.00.23: "Issue With Calibration OF Valves").
