Massey Ferguson 0B.01.03 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being pulled by the solenoid on the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This is almost always caused by a short circuit, either an internal short within the solenoid coil itself or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Perform a visual wiring inspection by tracing the wiring harness from the mid-mount valve block back to the cab, looking for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the chassis.
Check the connector by disconnecting the electrical plug at the loader valve solenoid and inspecting for water ingress, mud, or corrosion bridging the pins.
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter to measure resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. A reading of 0 ohms or significantly lower than 7-12 ohms indicates shorted windings.
Perform a harness isolation test by disconnecting the solenoid, turning the key ON, and activating the loader joystick. If the code changes to an Open Circuit or Low Amp Draw code, the solenoid is faulty. If the High Amp Draw code persists, the short is in the tractor's wiring harness.
Repair steps
Safety First
Lower the loader to the ground, turn off the tractor, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by moving the joystick in all directions. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Valve
Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (typically mounted under the right-hand side of the cab or along the mid-chassis).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the valve stem holding the solenoid coil in place.
Swap the Coil
Slide the old solenoid coil off the hydraulic cartridge tube.
Install
Clean the cartridge stem, slide the new solenoid coil on, and tighten the retaining nut.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the loader functions. Verify that the 0B.01.03 code has cleared from the dash.
