Massey Ferguson 0B.01.06 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) being pulled by the solenoid on the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This usually indicates a short circuit—either an internal short within the solenoid coil itself (degraded windings) or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness supplying power to the solenoid.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Wiring Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve solenoid. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas where the wire might be shorting directly to the tractor's chassis (ground).

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical connector at the solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or melting, which can cause electrical shorts.

  3. Solenoid Resistance Test: Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the solenoid coil. A reading of zero or significantly lower than the OEM specification indicates an internal short in the coil, confirming the solenoid is the culprit.

  4. Harness Short Test: With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and test the supply wire for a short to ground using your multimeter.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the mid-mount electro valve block (typically mounted under the right side of the cab or near the loader mounting brackets).

  3. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove the retaining nut or cap located at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

  5. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge stem.

    Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge to replace the coil, so no fluid should leak.

  6. Slide the new replacement solenoid coil onto the stem.

  7. Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut to secure the coil.

  8. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  9. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the loader joystick to verify the function is restored and the 0B.01.06 code has cleared.
