Massey Ferguson 0B.01.07 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected an "open circuit" in the electrical circuit for one of the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve solenoids. This means electrical continuity has been lost. The system expects a specific resistance from the solenoid coil; when it reads infinite resistance (or zero current draw), it triggers this code. This is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burnt-out/failed solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate the mid-mount valve block (usually mounted under the right side of the cab or near the loader mounting frames). Inspect the wiring harness leading to the solenoids for physical damage, rubbing, or rodent damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at the affected solenoid. Check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

  3. Coil Resistance Test: Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil itself. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the internal coil winding is broken and the solenoid must be replaced.

  4. Harness Continuity Test: If the coil tests good (shows a standard resistance value, typically between 5 to 15 ohms depending on the valve manufacturer), check the wiring harness for continuity between the solenoid connector and the Mid Mount Valve Module.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Lower the loader to the ground, turn off the tractor engine, and cycle the loader joystick to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the tractor's battery or ensure the key is in the OFF position to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Remove the Solenoid

    Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the faulty mid-mount valve solenoid.

  4. Unbolt the Coil

    Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

  5. Slide Off the Coil

    Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge tube. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid will be lost).

  6. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem. Install and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve spool).

  7. Reconnect and Test

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the tractor on and test the loader function. The fault code should move to a stored/inactive state or clear automatically.
