Massey Ferguson 0B.01.08 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Low Amp Draw

Issue description

The control module is detecting less electrical current flowing through the solenoid circuit than is required for normal operation. This typically indicates high electrical resistance in the circuit, which is most commonly caused by a failing solenoid coil, a broken or chafed wire, a loose connector, or severe corrosion at the terminals.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate the mid-mount valve block (usually mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, under the cab). Inspect the wiring harness leading to the electro-hydraulic solenoids for physical damage, chafing, or pinched wires.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the plug at the affected solenoid. Check for water ingress, dirt, or green corrosion on the pins. Ensure the pins are tight and making good contact.

  3. Coil Resistance Test: Using a digital multimeter (DMM), measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid coil. Compare the reading to the OEM specification (typically around 5 to 10 Ohms for 12V hydraulic solenoids). If the resistance is exceptionally high or reads 'OL' (Open Loop), the coil has failed internally.

  4. Harness Continuity Test: If the coil tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the Mid Mount Valve Module to isolate a broken wire.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the loader completely to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Access the Valve

    Remove any protective shielding or covers over the mid-mount loader valve block.

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If only the coil is faulty, you do not need to open the hydraulic system. If the cartridge itself is damaged, you will need to unscrew it and catch any residual hydraulic fluid).

  4. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can distort the cartridge).

  5. Reconnect and Test

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, clear the inactive 0B.01.08 fault code via the dash or diagnostic tool, and operate the loader joystick to verify proper function.
