Massey Ferguson 0B.01.09 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw
Issue description
The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid on the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve is exceeding the safe or expected threshold. A "High Amp Draw" typically indicates a short circuit to ground, a shorted internal solenoid coil, or severely damaged wiring harness insulation allowing power to arc.

Check the cause
Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the mid-mount valve module to the specific loader solenoid. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to the tractor chassis (ground).
Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical connector at the mid-mount electro valve solenoid. Check the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals.
Coil Resistance Test: Use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the solenoid coil pins. A reading of 0 Ohms or a reading significantly lower than the manufacturer's specification indicates a shorted internal coil, meaning the solenoid itself must be replaced.
Harness Continuity Test: Check for continuity between the power supply wire in the harness and the tractor chassis (ground) to rule out a short in the wiring before condemning the solenoid.
Clear and Retest: Clear the code using the dash interface or a diagnostic tool and actuate the loader joystick to see if the code returns immediately, confirming a hard fault.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface. Lower the loader bucket completely to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system. Turn off the engine and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate the Valve
Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (usually mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, under or near the cab).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid identified during your diagnostic checks.
Wiring Repair (If Applicable)
If the wiring harness was found to be chafed and shorting to ground, repair the damaged section using automotive-grade wire, solder, and heat shrink, or replace that section of the harness.
Solenoid Replacement
If the solenoid coil is shorted internally, remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.
Remove Coil
Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: Do not remove the hydraulic cartridge itself unless it is leaking or mechanically stuck, as this will cause fluid loss).
Install New Coil
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact to prevent future water ingress.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the loader functions using the joystick.
Clear Codes
Clear the stored 0B.01.09 fault code using a compatible diagnostic tool.
