Massey Ferguson 0B.01.12 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) flowing through the solenoid coil that controls the mid-mount loader valve is exceeding the maximum threshold expected by the control module. This is typically caused by an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness supplying the solenoid, or severe corrosion causing a bridge between the power and ground terminals.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched cables near the loader mounting brackets.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the affected mid-mount valve solenoid and perform a resistance test (Ohms) across the two pins on the solenoid coil. A reading at or near 0 Ohms indicates a dead short inside the coil.

  3. With the solenoid disconnected, perform a harness short-to-ground test by checking the power supply wire for continuity to the tractor chassis (ground). Continuity indicates a shorted wiring harness.

  4. While the solenoid is removed, manually actuate the spool valve to ensure it is not physically jammed or sticking, which can cause severe overheating and internal coil breakdown.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Lower the loader to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery or turn off the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, below the cab, near the loader subframe).

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical connector from the specific solenoid logging the high amp draw.

  4. Remove the Solenoid Coil

    Remove the retaining nut or cap screw at the end of the valve stem. Carefully slide the faulty solenoid coil off the cartridge/spool stem. Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid should leak during this step.

  5. Clean and Inspect

    Wipe down the valve stem to ensure it is free of dirt, rust, or debris.

  6. Install New Solenoid

    Slide the replacement solenoid coil over the stem. Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing).

  7. Reconnect and Test

    Plug the electrical connector back in. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the loader joystick to verify smooth operation and ensure the 0B.01.12 code clears from the dash.
