Massey Ferguson 0B.02.01 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The control module is attempting to send a 12V signal to the solenoid that controls the mid-mount hydraulic valve (which operates the front-end loader), but it is detecting infinite resistance (no current flow). This indicates a complete break in the electrical path, which is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burned-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the mid-mount valve block (typically under the right-hand side of the cab/platform) and inspect the wiring harness leading to the loader solenoids for obvious breaks, rodent damage, or chafing against the chassis.
Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at the affected solenoid. Check for pushed-out pins, heavy corrosion, or water ingress.
Ohm Test the Solenoid: Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. A healthy 12V solenoid reads between 4 to 12 Ohms. If it reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the coil has failed internally.
Harness Continuity Test: If the solenoid tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the Mid Mount Valve Module to locate the break in the wire.
Repair steps
Safety First
Lower the loader to the ground, turn off the tractor, and cycle the loader joystick to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits.
Remove the Connector
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty mid-mount valve solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil
Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem holding the solenoid in place. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge itself, just the electromagnetic coil sliding over the stem).
Install the New Coil
Slide the replacement solenoid coil over the valve stem.
Secure
Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's torque spec (do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve stem and cause the spool to stick).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or the dash interface to clear the 0B.02.01 DTC.
Test
Start the tractor and test the loader functions to ensure smooth operation and verify the code does not return.
