Massey Ferguson 0B.02.03 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

The electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid on the mid-mount loader valve is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness, a shorted internal solenoid coil, or a severely corroded connector causing a short.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or exposed copper shorting to ground.

   Disconnect the plug at the affected loader mid-mount solenoid and check for water ingress, melted plastic, or severe corrosion across the pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the solenoid coil to check for an internal short (near zero or below spec).

   With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and activate the loader joystick to see if the code changes to 'Open Circuit' (e.g., 0B.02.04), which isolates the issue to the solenoid.

   Safety First

   Turn off the tractor, lower the loader to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block, typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis under the cab.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Remove the retaining nut or cap screw at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

   Swap the Coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge stem. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid should leak).

   Install

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque (do not overtighten, or you may crack the plastic coil housing).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs and test the loader joystick to ensure smooth operation without throwing the code.
