Massey Ferguson 0B.02.04 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

An open circuit indicates that the control module is sending an electrical signal to the solenoid that operates the mid-mount loader valve, but the electrical path is broken. The system detects infinite resistance or a lack of current draw, which typically means a wire is cut, a connector is unplugged, or the internal copper coil of the solenoid has burned out and broken.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the tractor chassis to the mid-mount loader valve block for severed wires, pinch points, or disconnected plugs.

  2. Unplug the connector at the affected loader solenoid and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or hydraulic fluid contamination inside the plug.

  3. Verify that the ground circuit for the solenoids is intact. A lost ground connection will result in an open circuit reading.

  4. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid itself. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the solenoid coil is internally broken.

  5. If the solenoid tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the Mid Mount Valve Module to locate the break.

Repair steps

  1. Safety Prep

    Park the tractor on a level surface. Lower the front-end loader completely to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure in the mid-mount valve block. Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block, typically mounted on the right side of the tractor under the cab.

  3. Wiring Repair

    If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken wire in the harness, splice and repair the wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors.

  4. Solenoid Replacement

    If the coil is dead: Clean the exterior of the valve block around the faulty solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  5. Reassembly and Testing

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the loader joystick to ensure the function has been restored. Clear the inactive fault code using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool.
