Massey Ferguson 0B.X.03 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an electrical current (amperage) pulling through the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve solenoid that exceeds the normal operating specifications. This is typically caused by an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness supplying power to the valve.

Check the cause

  1. Wiring Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader electro valve. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short-to-ground, leading to the high amp draw.

  2. Solenoid Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the mid-mount valve solenoid and measure the resistance (ohms) across the coil pins. A reading of zero or significantly below OEM spec indicates an internal short in the coil.

  3. Check Spool Position Sensors: Use a diagnostic tool to check for related codes like 0B.X.17 through 0B.X.21 ("Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value"). If the valve spool is physically sticking due to contamination, the solenoid may overwork and draw excessive amperage trying to move it.

  4. Check Loader Selector Switch: Verify the voltage from the loader selector switch in the cab (related code 0B.00.24) to ensure the command signal is clean.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the loader circuit by cycling the joystick, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the Electronic Mid-Mount Valve block, which is typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis where the loader hydraulic hoses connect.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the wiring harness connector from the specific solenoid logging the high amp draw.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge.

  5. Install New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the cartridge and tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque.

  6. Reconnect and Calibrate

    Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery. Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0B.X.03 DTC.

  7. Valve Calibration

    You may need to run a valve calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic interface, as replacing electronic valve components can trigger code 0B.X.22 ("Issue With Calibration OF Valves").
