Massey Ferguson 0B.X.04 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a break in the electrical circuit that is preventing current from flowing to the solenoid. This is typically caused by a broken wire, a loose or disconnected plug, dirty/corroded contacts in a connector, or a completely failed (burnt out) internal solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the mid-mount valve block for severed wires, chafing, or loose connections

  2. Disconnect the harness at the affected solenoid and check for dirty contacts, moisture, or corrosion inside the connector

  3. Turn the tractor key to the ON position, actuate the loader joystick, and use a multimeter to verify that the tractor is sending 12V to the connector

  4. Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid itself. A healthy OEM solenoid should read approximately 10 OHMs. If it reads 'OL' (infinite resistance), the internal coil is broken

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (usually mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, below the cab, where the loader hydraulic lines route).

  3. Disconnect Harness

    Unplug the electrical connector from the specific solenoid throwing the code.

  4. Remove Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

  5. Install New Part

    Slide the new 12V / 10 OHM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the plastic casing.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0B.X.04 DTC from the Mid Mount Valve Module. Test the loader functions to ensure the code does not return.
