Massey Ferguson 0B.X.12 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) being pulled by the solenoid on the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve has exceeded the normal operating limits. This typically points to an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a mechanically stuck valve spool causing the solenoid to overwork.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the solenoid coil pins. A significantly lower reading or dead short indicates an internally shorted coil.

  3. Check the mechanical operation of the spool valve. If the spool is jammed due to debris or damage, the solenoid may draw high amps trying to move it.

  4. Ensure the pins inside the connector are not corroded or welded together from previous high-current events.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (typically mounted on the right side of the chassis where the loader hydraulic lines connect).

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

  5. Replace

    Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut (do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil).

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the 0B.X.12 DTC from the system. Test loader operation to ensure the code does not return.
