Massey Ferguson 0B.X.15 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The control module has detected an excessive amount of electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid that controls the mid-mount loader valve. This condition is almost always caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness, or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader electro valve solenoid. Look for chafed wires, pinched sections, or melted insulation that could be shorting the power feed directly to the tractor chassis (ground).

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the solenoid connector and inspect the pins. Look for water ingress, severe corrosion, or melted plastic, which can bridge the pins and cause a high amp draw.

  3. Coil Resistance Test (Ohms): With the solenoid disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. A reading of 0 ohms (or an abnormally low resistance compared to a known good coil) indicates the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.

  4. Harness Isolation Test: With the solenoid still disconnected, check for continuity to ground on the power supply wire coming from the module. If there is continuity to ground, the short is in the wiring harness, not the solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the tractor's battery to ensure safety and prevent further damage to the Mid Mount Valve Module.

  2. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the harness failed the isolation test, locate the shorted section. Repair it using automotive-grade wire and sealed heat-shrink connectors, or replace that section of the harness.

  3. Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

    Locate the mid-mount valve block (usually located under the right-hand side of the cab/platform). Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the faulty solenoid coil to the valve cartridge stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. Wipe the valve stem clean of any dirt or hydraulic fluid. Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem. Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut. Note: Do not overtighten the nut, as this can distort the internal valve spool and cause it to stick.

  4. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid.

  5. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0B.X.15 fault code.

  6. Test

    Start the tractor and operate the loader joystick to verify the mid-mount valve functions correctly and the code does not return.
