0B.X.18

Massey Ferguson 0B.X.18 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value

Issue description

The spool position sensor monitors the exact physical location of the hydraulic spool inside the valve block. This code is triggered when the sensor sends an erratic, missing, or out-of-range voltage signal to the controller, meaning the system can no longer accurately determine or control the position of the hydraulic spool.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Mid Mount Valve Module to the spool position sensor for rubbed wires, corrosion, or moisture inside the connector

  2. Use a multimeter to check the voltage/resistance of the sensor and compare readings against OEM specifications to determine if the sensor has internally failed

  3. Check the hydraulic spool itself for physical binding caused by debris or contaminated hydraulic fluid

  4. Ensure the tractor has adequate hydraulic charge pressure and that the hydraulic filters are clean

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and move the electronic loader joystick in all directions to relieve residual hydraulic pressure in the mid-mount valve block.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts and reset the module.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (usually mounted under the right side of the cab or integrated into the loader subframe).

  4. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the faulty spool position sensor. Carefully unscrew and remove the sensor from the valve body.

  5. Inspect and Clean

Inspect the spool and the valve body cavity for metal shavings, scored metal, or damaged O-rings. Clean the mating surface thoroughly.

  6. Install New Sensor

Install the replacement spool position sensor and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Calibrate the Valve

Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. You must perform a valve calibration procedure (often done via the tractor's SIS dashboard screen or by a dealer using the AGCO diagnostic tool) so the ECU can learn the new sensor's end-of-stroke values.
