0B.X.21

Massey Ferguson 0B.X.21 – Basic Control ECU or Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value

Issue description

The control module is receiving an out-of-range, erratic, or missing voltage signal from the sensor responsible for monitoring the physical position of a specific hydraulic spool valve.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the electrical connection at the affected spool valve for dirty, worn, or badly positioned terminals

  2. Check if the sensor earth (ground) circuit is open

  3. Check if the input signal circuit is open or short-circuited to a 12V power source

  4. Verify that there are no underlying CAN-bus communication errors between the dash and the valve module (look for accompanying codes like 0B.00.16)

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electro-hydraulic system.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify the specific spool valve throwing the code (indicated by the sub-system number replacing the 'X' in your specific code readout).

  3. Harness Repair

Disconnect the spool position sensor. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the diagnostic checks revealed an open or shorted wire, repair the wiring harness leading back to the valve module.

  4. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring and ground are intact but the sensor value remains out of range, the spool position sensor itself has failed internally and must be unbolted and replaced.

  5. Valve Calibration

After replacing the sensor, you must perform a valve calibration. This calibration teaches the ECU the new sensor's neutral, fully open, and fully closed voltage values.

  6. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool or Jaltest AGV) to clear the DTCs and test the hydraulic function.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Spool Position Sensor (Electro-Hydraulic Control Valve Sensor)

Exact AGCO part number varies depending on the specific valve block assembly; often cross-references with CNH part 84386295.
