Massey Ferguson 1 – X104 - Armrest Autotronic 5: 10 V output fault

The 10-volt reference signal supplied by the armrest controller to power various user-interface components (like the joystick and switches) is out of specification. This is typically caused by a short circuit in the wiring or a failed component pulling the voltage down, or an internal failure of the controller itself.

   Check for accompanying codes (like AR 11 through AR 42) that might pinpoint a short on specific FingerTIP switches

   Locate the X104 junction, disconnect the harness, and measure the voltage directly at the Autotronic 5 controller's output pins

   Inspect the armrest wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or short circuits to ground (0V) or power (12V)

   Isolate components powered by the 10V reference, including FingerTIP switches, transmission lever, and joystick

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and ensure the key is removed before disconnecting any modules.

   Isolate the Short

   Disconnect the X104 harness from the Autotronic 5 controller.

   Verify the Controller

   Turn the key on and test the controller's output. If it fails to output 10V with nothing connected to it, the Autotronic 5 Armrest Controller has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

   Test Downstream Components

   If the controller tests good (outputs 10V), turn the power back off, reconnect the X104 harness, and begin disconnecting individual user controls one by one (FingerTIP switches 1-5, joystick, transmission lever, and the 6-button keyboard).

   Identify the Culprit

   Turn the power on after each disconnection. When the 10V reference returns to normal (or the AR 01 code changes to an open-circuit code for that specific switch), you have found the shorted component.

   Replace or Repair

   Replace the shorted switch/joystick, or repair the damaged section of the armrest wiring harness.

   Clear Codes

   Delete the error code from the control unit dashboard and restart the engine to verify the repair.
