Massey Ferguson 10.00.08 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Outside Temperature Sensor Short Circuit

The control module has detected a short circuit (either to ground or to power) in the circuit belonging to the ambient/outside air temperature sensor. When this happens, the climate control system cannot accurately determine the exterior temperature, which can disrupt automatic climate control functions.

   Visual Inspection: Locate the outside temperature sensor (typically mounted near the cab fresh air intake or at the front of the tractor away from engine heat). Inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or short to voltage.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the sensor and inspect the plug for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins bridging the connection.

   Sensor Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the temperature sensor. If the resistance reads at or near 0 ohms, the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Harness Continuity Test: With the sensor unplugged, check for continuity between the two wires on the harness side, and between each wire and the chassis ground. If there is continuity where there shouldn't be, the wiring harness is shorted and needs repair.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Locate the ambient air temperature sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it free. Unclip or unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, splice in new wire for the damaged section using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors.

   Install New Sensor

   If the sensor was internally shorted, snap the new OEM replacement sensor into the mounting bracket.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor until it clicks. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's diagnostic menu or a scan tool to clear the 10.00.08 fault code. Verify that the AC panel now reads the correct outside temperature.
