Massey Ferguson 10.01.02 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Vent Temperature Sensor Short Circuit

Issue description

The climate control system has detected that the electrical circuit for the vent temperature sensor has shorted (either to ground or to another voltage source). This results in an out-of-range low resistance or voltage signal, preventing the system from accurately reading the air temperature coming from the vents.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the AC vent temperature sensor for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins bridging the circuit

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the vent temperature sensor's terminals (a reading of near zero ohms indicates an internal short circuit in the sensor)

  4. With the sensor disconnected, check the harness side for continuity between the signal wire and ground to rule out a shorted wiring harness

  5. If the sensor and wiring test fine, check the AIRCON climate control panel for an internal short or failure

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety while working on electrical components.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Access the cab HVAC unit (usually located under the seat, behind the seat, or in the roof console depending on the exact tractor series). Locate the vent temperature sensor mounted in the air ducting.

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove Sensor

    Remove the faulty sensor. Depending on the housing, it will either twist and pull out, or be secured by a small retaining screw.

  5. Install New Part

    Insert the new OEM vent temperature sensor into the duct housing and secure it.

  6. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring it clicks into place.

  7. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard display to clear the 10.01.02 fault code.

  8. Test

    Run the tractor and engage the AC system to ensure the vent temperature regulates correctly and the fault code does not return. (Note: If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring short instead of a bad sensor, splice and heat-shrink the damaged wires instead of replacing the sensor).
