Massey Ferguson 10.01.33 – AIRCON (Air Conditioning Control Module): Air Vent Circulation Flap Position Sensor Voltage Issue

Issue description

The voltage signal coming from the internal potentiometer (position sensor) of the recirculation actuator is outside of its expected operating range, short-circuited, or open. This actuator controls the blend door/flap that determines whether the HVAC system pulls in fresh outside air or recirculates the existing cabin air. When this fault is active, the system typically defaults to the "external air" position to ensure fresh air enters the cab.

Check the cause

  1. Access the HVAC unit and inspect the physical circulation flap. Ensure it is not jammed by debris, dust buildup, or broken plastic hinges, which would prevent the actuator from moving and cause the sensor to read an out-of-range position.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the AIRCON module and the recirculation actuator. Look for chafed wires, broken connections, or corroded pins at the connector.

  3. Using a multimeter, verify that the actuator is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the AIRCON module.

  4. Check the signal wire from the actuator's potentiometer for a short to ground, short to power, or an open circuit.

  5. If available, connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to monitor the live voltage reading of the flap position sensor while commanding the flap to move. If the voltage jumps erratically or stays static, the internal potentiometer is likely failed.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

    Depending on the tractor model, remove the necessary cab interior panels (often the roof liner or side console panels) to access the HVAC distribution box.

  3. Locate the Actuator

    Identify the recirculation actuator (usually mounted on the side of the air intake housing).

  4. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty actuator.

  5. Remove

    Remove the mounting screws (typically 2 or 3 small Torx or Phillips screws) securing the actuator to the HVAC housing. Pull the actuator straight off the blend door shaft.

  6. Install New Part

    Align the splined shaft of the new actuator with the receptacle on the flap door. Do not force it; rotate the flap manually if necessary to align the splines.

  7. Secure

    Reinstall the mounting screws and plug in the electrical connector.

  8. Reassemble & Calibrate

    Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on. Use the AGCO EDT (or the tractor's onboard terminal, if supported) to clear the 10.01.33 fault code and run an HVAC self-calibration routine so the AIRCON module can learn the new actuator's end-stops.
