Massey Ferguson 10.02.02 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Vent Temperature Sensor Short Circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected abnormally low resistance (a short circuit) in the electrical circuit for the A/C vent temperature sensor. This condition is typically caused by the sensor failing internally (shorting out) or the wiring harness shorting to ground or to another wire.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading from the AIRCON module to the vent temperature sensor (located in the cab HVAC ducting) for pinched wires, chafing against metal cab frames, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the vent temperature sensor and measure the internal resistance across the sensor's pins using a digital multimeter. If the reading shows near 0 ohms (continuity), the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.
With the sensor disconnected, check the resistance between the two pins on the harness side. If there is continuity between the signal wire and the ground wire, the short is located within the wiring harness, not the sensor.
Check the sensor signal voltage at the AIRCON module connector to ensure the module is outputting the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) and that the short is not internal to the A/C control panel itself.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.
Access the Sensor
Locate the A/C vent temperature sensor. Depending on the tractor model, this is typically mounted directly into the HVAC evaporator housing or the main air distribution duct inside the cab roof or console. Remove any necessary cab trim panels to gain access.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty sensor.
Remove
Remove the sensor from the ducting. These are usually secured by a simple twist-lock mechanism or a small retaining screw.
Install
Insert the new Air Conditioning Vent Temperature Sensor into the housing and secure it in place.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor.
Reassemble
Reinstall all cab trim panels and covers that were removed to access the HVAC unit.
Test and Clear
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the stored 10.02.02 fault code. Run the A/C system to verify that the vent temperature reads correctly and the code does not return.
