Massey Ferguson 10.03.02 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Vent Temperature Sensor Short Circuit

Issue description

The system has detected a short circuit in the vent temperature sensor circuit. This means the voltage signal returning to the controller is out of the expected range (typically shorted to ground or shorted to a voltage source), indicating that the sensor has failed internally or the wiring harness is compromised.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the AIRCON control module to the vent temperature sensor (located in the cab's HVAC ducting/evaporator housing). Look for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins. Look for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit.

  3. Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the sensor's terminals. A reading of near zero ohms confirms the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.

  4. With the sensor disconnected, turn the key to the ON position and check the harness side for proper reference voltage (usually 5V) and ground. Check for continuity between the signal wire and ground to rule out a harness short.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Access the HVAC unit inside the cab (often located under the seat, behind the seat, or in the roof console depending on the specific tractor model). Locate the vent temperature sensor plugged into the air ducting.

  3. Remove the Sensor

    Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and unplug the harness. Twist or unclip the sensor to pull it out of the HVAC duct.

  4. Install the New Part

    Insert the replacement sensor into the duct housing and secure it. Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks.

  5. Reassemble and Reconnect

    Reassemble any cab interior panels that were removed to access the HVAC unit. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to clear the 10.03.02 / 10.00.02 fault code from the AIRCON module.

  7. System Test

    Start the tractor and engage the A/C. Verify that the automatic climate control regulates the vent temperature properly and that the fault code does not return.
