Massey Ferguson 10.X.01 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Vent Temperature Sensor Open Circuit (AIRCON)

Issue description

The climate control system is no longer receiving a valid electrical signal from the temperature sensor located in the air conditioning vent/duct. An 'open circuit' indicates that the electrical path has been broken—this is typically caused by a severed wire, an unplugged connector, or a sensor that has failed internally and lost continuity.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the vent temperature sensor (usually in the main HVAC ducting in the cab roof or under the console) and visually inspect the wiring harness for chafing, rodent damage, or breaks.

  2. Disconnect the sensor plug and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals that could cause a loss of connection.

  3. Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the temperature sensor. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance, the sensor has failed internally.

  4. If the sensor tests good, check the continuity of the signal and ground wires from the sensor connector back to the AIRCON module harness to locate any breaks.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

    Remove the necessary cab interior trim panels (often the roof liner or side console panels) to access the main HVAC distribution box and ducting.

  3. Remove the Sensor

    Locate the vent temperature sensor protruding into the air duct. Unplug the electrical connector. Twist or unclip the sensor to pull it out of the duct housing.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Insert the replacement sensor into the duct and secure it.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks into place. Reinstall all cab trim panels.

  6. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition. The code may move to an "Inactive" status automatically once the circuit is restored. If it remains active, use the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to clear the logged fault codes. Test the A/C system to ensure proper temperature regulation.
