Massey Ferguson 10.X.08 – AIRCON: Air Conditioning Outside Temperature Sensor Short Circuit

The controller has detected a short circuit (either to ground or to a voltage source) in the signal circuit of the ambient/outside air temperature sensor. Because of the short, the system receives an implausible temperature reading, which can disrupt the automatic climate control functions.

   Locate the outside temperature sensor (X358) mounted under the A/C condenser or on the right side of the cab roof.

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and inspect pins for moisture, corrosion, or physical damage that could bridge the pins.

   Test the sensor using a multimeter to measure resistance across the terminals; a reading of zero or near-zero ohms indicates an internal short.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading back to the AIRCON module for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted loom causing a short to chassis ground or another wire.

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable

   to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the outside temperature sensor (X358) at its mounting location

   (under the condenser or on the cab roof).

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and unplug it from the sensor.

   Unclip or unbolt the faulty sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Snap or bolt the new outside temperature sensor into the factory mounting location.

   Reconnect the electrical connector

   ensuring it clicks securely into place and the weather seal is intact.

   Reconnect the battery ground cable.

   Turn on the ignition and clear the 10.X.08 / AC08 fault code.

   Use the instrument panel interface or a diagnostic scan tool to clear the fault code from the AIRCON module.

   Verify the repair

   by checking that the A/C system operates correctly and the outside temperature displays an accurate reading on the cab monitor.
