Massey Ferguson 10.X.31 – AIRCON (Air Conditioning Module) / Cab Climate Control ECU: Issue With Signal To Left Cab Fan Speed Controller (AIRCON)

The signal from the left cab fan speed controller (fan speed controller no. 1 or its potentiometer) is outside of its expected operating range. The system registers this as a return error from the controller, indicating that the module is receiving an invalid voltage or signal from the fan speed switch/potentiometer.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the left cab fan speed controller/potentiometer for damaged wires, corrosion, or loose pins

   Use a multimeter to test the circuit for open circuits or short circuits to earth (commonly caused by a shorted potentiometer reference)

   Check the Air Conditioning Control Module connections for overvoltage or undervoltage conditions that might be skewing the signal

   Verify if the issue is the switch/potentiometer itself or the blower motor resistor, as a burnt-out resistor can cause erratic return signals to the controller

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the cab climate control system.

   Access the Controller

   Remove the cab trim panels or the climate control console faceplate to access the rear of the HVAC control unit and the left cab fan blower assembly.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the electrical connector from the left cab fan speed controller (blower switch).

   Replace the Faulty Component

   If diagnostic tests confirmed the potentiometer/switch is sending an out-of-range signal, remove the retaining screws or clips and extract the defective switch. (If the switch tests fine, the issue may lie in the blower motor resistor, which should be replaced instead).

   Install the New Part

   Seat the new fan speed controller/switch into the panel and reconnect the wiring harness securely.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the climate control console and cab trim panels.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 10.X.31 fault code, and test the left cab fan through all speed settings to ensure proper operation and that the code does not return.
