Massey Ferguson 100.16 – ECU: Engine Oil Pressure Too High

Issue description

The control module senses an oil pressure input voltage that is higher than expected, often detected even at 0 RPM (when the engine is off). This almost always indicates an electrical issue such as a failed sensor, an open circuit, or a short to voltage in the wiring harness rather than a true mechanical over-pressure condition.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a Key-On, Engine-Off test: Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine (0 RPM) and read live data for engine oil pressure. A high reading indicates a strictly electrical issue.

  2. Visually inspect the engine oil pressure sensor on the engine block. Disconnect the pigtail and check the connector for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

  3. Test the wiring harness between the sensor connector and the ECU for continuity, looking for an open circuit or a short to power.

  4. If the sensor voltage only spikes when the engine is running (mechanical cause): Connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine block to verify actual oil pressure and rule out a stuck oil pressure relief valve.
