Massey Ferguson 100.16 – Engine ECU: Engine Oil Pressure Too High

The controller is sensing an oil pressure input voltage that is higher than the expected normal operating range. This can be caused by an actual high-pressure mechanical condition in the engine, or an electrical fault such as an open ground circuit or the sensor's input/supply circuit shorting to a voltage source.

   Check the oil level on the dipstick to ensure the crankcase is not overfilled, and inspect for coolant or fuel contamination

   Inspect oil quality and the oil filter for proper viscosity, clogging, or a malfunctioning filter bypass valve

   Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness leading to the engine oil pressure sensor for an electrical short to a voltage source or an open ground circuit

   Test the voltage output of the oil pressure sensor to see if it is reading out of range (e.g., reading high voltage even at 0 RPM)

   Correct Fluid Levels

   If the oil level is too high, drain the oil to the correct capacity. If contamination is found (coolant/fuel), diagnose the source of the leak (e.g., cylinder head gasket) before proceeding.

   Service the Oil and Filter

   If the oil is old, the wrong viscosity, or the filter is suspected to be clogged, perform a complete oil and filter change using OEM-spec fluids.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open ground in the sensor harness, repair or replace the damaged wiring.

   Replace the Oil Pressure Sensor

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor is outputting an incorrect high voltage, remove the old sensor and install a new OEM oil pressure sensor.

   Inspect the Pressure Relief Valve

   If the sensor and electrical circuits are perfectly fine, the engine may have a genuine high-pressure condition caused by a stuck-closed oil pump pressure relief valve. Access and inspect the relief valve, cleaning or replacing it as necessary.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the ECU, clear the 00100.16 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the engine to verify the pressure reads normally and the code does not return.
