Massey Ferguson 102.02 – Engine ECU (EEM): Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Issue

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is receiving an erratic, implausible, or missing signal from the boost pressure/MAP sensor. The ECU detects that the boost pressure reading does not match the computed engine model, or the internal measurement circuit within the ECU has failed. This condition typically forces the engine into a derated power state (limp mode) to protect the turbocharger and engine components.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the intake manifold, intercooler (charge air cooler), and turbocharger plumbing for boost leaks, loose clamps, or severe air intake restrictions.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the boost pressure sensor to the Engine ECU for chafed wires, open circuits, or shorts to ground/battery.

  3. Back-probe the sensor connector to verify it is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage from the ECU and that the signal wire has continuity back to the ECU pins.

  4. Check ECU operation by swapping with a known-good EEM controller if the sensor and wiring test perfectly, as a 'NO SIGNAL' error can sometimes be caused by an internal ECU hardware defect.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Intake Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP sensor), which is typically mounted directly on the intake manifold or the charge-air piping just before the intake manifold.

  3. Inspect the Port

    Remove the sensor and inspect the mounting port. Soot or carbon buildup can block the sensor tip. Clean the port carefully without knocking debris into the intake.

  4. Replace the Sensor

    If wiring tests passed but the signal is still invalid, install a new boost pressure sensor. Ensure the O-ring is seated correctly to prevent new boost leaks.

  5. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like AGCO EDT) to clear the 000102.02 fault code.

  6. Test Drive

    Start the engine and verify that the boost pressure reading on the live data scanner matches atmospheric pressure at idle and increases smoothly under load.
