Massey Ferguson 102.02 – Engine ECU: Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Issue

Issue description

The controller is receiving an erratic, implausible, or completely missing signal from the intake manifold boost pressure sensor. The system detects that the sensor's output voltage does not correlate with the expected operating parameters, which can force the engine into a derated power state (limp mode).

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the boost pressure sensor connector and the wiring harness leading back to the Engine ECU for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Use a diagnostic PC/service tool (like AGCO EDT) to monitor the live signal from the boost pressure sensor. Check if the voltage is stuck, fluctuating wildly, or reading zero.

  3. Test the sensor circuit for a short to ground, short to battery voltage, or an open circuit.

  4. If the wiring and sensor test fine, check the ECU hardware (e.g., by swapping with a known good controller) as an FMI 2 code can indicate an internal ECU measurement failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery terminals before working on the engine sensors.

  2. Inspect and Clean

    Locate the intake boost pressure sensor on the intake manifold. Disconnect the electrical plug and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect and test if the code clears.

  3. Replace the Sensor

    If the wiring is intact and the code persists, remove the retaining hardware holding the boost pressure sensor. Pull the old sensor out of the manifold.

  4. Install New Sensor

    Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor slightly, press it into the manifold, and secure it with the retaining hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 00102.02 / SPN 102 FMI 2 fault code.

  6. Test Run

    Start the engine and verify that the warning lamp remains off and full engine power is restored. If the fault immediately returns and the sensor/wiring are brand new, the Engine ECU will require replacement or professional repair.
